THE EARLY DECISION PROGRAM
(FOR CURRENT FIFTH GRADERS)
Saint Louis Priory School is ever mindful of the stress and pressure inherent in the Secondary School application process, for parent and student alike. We recognize that as you begin to investigate educational options, there is a need both to plan in advance for this substantial commitment and to feel secure in the knowledge that you have found a good fit for your son’s school environment.
With this in mind, the School instituted an Early Decision Program several years ago which allows a Fifth Grade student to apply to the School, be evaluated and, providing he meets Priory’s admission standards, to be offered enrollment for his Seventh Grade year. It is worth noting that this option is best suited for the boy who views Priory as his “first” choice for Seventh Grade, not necessarily for a student who intends to apply to other schools during his Sixth Grade year.
In this Early Decision Program, applicants are evaluated by the Admissions Committee using current admissions requirements, which includes a school visit, an interview, submission of SSAT (Secondary School Admission Test) exam scores, a completed application, a review of transcripts and previous standardized test scores, and receipt of recommendations from the applicant’s current school. The normal admissions time line is followed with the notification of status being made in mid-March. If a student is offered enrollment for his Seventh Grade year and wishes to enroll in Saint Louis Priory School, a $1,000 nonrefundable deposit is required and will be applied towards his first year tuition. A final enrollment contract for the Seventh Grade will be sent and will be due in early February preceding entry. This enrollment is contingent upon the successful completion of the student’s Sixth Grade academic program and a continued record of good citizenship. The School reserves the right to rescind the offer of enrollment at any time in cases of unsatisfactory performance or behavior.
As the School is seeking to identify and to attract the most highly qualified boys, a somewhat higher standard of admission is employed. As a result, a boy who applies for the program and whose admission is “deferred” is strongly encouraged to apply again in his Sixth Grade year. To allow for boys applying during their Sixth Grade year, only a portion of the class will be enrolled through the Early Decision Program.
While financial aid applications are accepted from families of Early Decision Program candidates, any aid for which a family might qualify at the time of this Early Decision evaluation is subject to change pending an additional evaluation of a family’s financial situation in the winter preceding the student’s entry.
