The Mission of Saint Louis Priory School clearly states that we seek to provide a college preparatory education of the highest excellence. Accordingly, we present an educational program in the liberal arts tradition which prepares young men for admission to distinguished colleges and universities and enables them to undertake their continuing studies with success. Such a program imparts the intellectual skills and the habits of inquiry, study and reflection which characterize the educated man. It challenges each student to discover and to develop his unique set of talents, and stimulates in him an intellectual curiosity and independence of thought.
This is simply not possible without a Faculty of the highest caliber; one that is thoroughly capable of wise instruction and deeply committed to careful attention to each student. We are extremely proud of our Faculty, over 75% of whom have graduate degrees, including numerous doctorates…and even a Rhodes Scholar. Over half have been in the classroom for over 20 years and nearly one-fourth are members of the Monastic Community. Most faculty members have multiple roles to fill in the school and several have degrees in more than one field.
In short, this is a talented, energetic and devoted group of men and women.
When we hire faculty members, we look for energetic individuals who like being around young men (we are an all boys school) and who want to be involved in all aspects of their learning. It is not necessary for a candidate to be “certified” or even to be on a “certification” track, since we are primarily interested in competency in the field(s) where such an individual would teach. We are also very interested in teachers who have the desire and the ability to coach, since athletics is curricular at Priory, rather than extracurricular.
Faculty competency is a necessity since our students are academically very able. The average senior scores about 1300 combined on the verbal and quantitative portions of the SAT, and slightly above 30 composite on the ACT. Over 95% of our graduates complete AP work while in their junior and senior years at Priory and over 80% of their grades are at the recommended level or higher. About 75% of the graduates in any given year are admitted to the “Most Competitive” and “Highly Competitive” colleges and universities in the country. Teaching them is exciting, demanding and a great deal of fun.
Our student to teacher ratio is 8:1, with class size in the high school averaging about 18. Classes can be as large as 24 or as small as four, depending on the subject matter and the level within the school. Teachers normally have multiple preparations and teach at several levels within our six-year program.
|Aestas, the Summer Program at St. Louis Priory School, announces faculty openings for the Summer of 2014. Aestas seeks to offer students in Grades 5-12 the opportunity for remediation and enrichment in order to complement and advance their educational growth across disciplines. Thus, there are a variety of positions available in a myriad of subject areas for those teachers with a strong background and passion for their particular subject area. Unless otherwise noted, courses run from June 2-27, 2014.|
